Attended a highly interesting talk by Dr Teo yesterday about the mystics of other religion... Dr Teo touched upon Christian Mystics who were deemed as heretics by the Christian Masses even till today... There is some similarity between the Gnostic teachings and Buddhism... Gonna explore deeper in this subject, esp the lost Gospels (again rejected by the Pope for whatever reason...)

the gnostic gospels were rejected because they were not written by the disciples of Chrisit themselves, but by people using their names to write the books. this was done as they wanted their teachings to be "publicised" more and for recognition. moreover, these books were written like approx 100 years after Christ died, which made it more evident that they were not written by the disciples themselves.
there are actually many other reasons for their non-inclusion. i've read the "lost gospels" as you've called it before (gosple according to thomas and mary) and i agree the teachings are as you say, somewhat similar to buddhism. it's as the name suggest, gnostic.
