Did nothing constructive except studying for CAs... Had my new PBL grouping yesterday with a new PBL tutor, Dr Li Qui Tian... Quite a pleasant PBL lesson, considering the fact that my tutor was quite enthusiastic about PBL and actually took it seriously. Heard from one of my friend that her PBL tutor was very slack and bad mannered. This PBL tutor actually told his students that PBL is a waste of time and asked them to get over and done with. What was even more annoying was that he scolded some ppl for being late for PBL when they had to go round searching for the new venue. I feel that PBL is in fact an extremely good way to learn new stuff if everyone were to take it seriously, including teachers. Other medical schools in Canada and UK have adopted PBL as their main platform of teaching and it has worked extremely wwll for them. Glasgow, for example climbed to the second spot amongst the uk medical schools shortly after it adopted the new pbl format. NUS, after seeing the benefits , I suppose, decided to adopt PBL but pbl has unfortunately not worked well for SIngaporean students... Because 1) the school workload is very heavy, on top of the usual CAS... and 2) it is not graded...

To reap the benefits of PBL, I guess the school should not conduct any lectures on a topic so as to give students full freedom of taking charge of his learning...

I heard from some of my juniors that the GP Paper this year was much tougher than the previous year. THe GP questions are quite limited in scope with more questions on family, friends, studying of history and marriage... except for a technology question : are we too dependent on technology?? Thus many students felt such a paper benefitted the arts students more than the science students....
